Is the Book of the Month Subscription Worth It?

A glimpse at a few of my BOTM beauties

You can find monthly subscription boxes for a variety of items these days, including books. While there are several different subscriptions out there, I am partial to Book of the Month.

Each month, Book of the Month selects 5 books that are brand new being released that month. Typically, each book is of a different genre so that there is a little something for everyone. You choose out of the 5 options for the given month and then tada you’ve got yourself a hardback copy of a newly released book, usually retailing $25 and up in a traditional book store.

So here’s the deal. Memberships are billed either monthly or yearly.

  • Monthly billing is $14.99 each billing cycle and included one credit for a book selection. With this option, you are able to skip months whenever you would like with any unspent credits rolling over to the next month.
  • Yearly billing is an upfront payment of $167.99 ($13.99 per book) with 12 credits added to your account upfront.

In addition to selecting a new release each month, Book of the Month offers discounted add ons (up to 2 per month). These add ons could be prior month’s books, a second selection for the current month, or one of Book of the Month’s of options. These add ons are only $9.99 per add on.

Another perk is the Book of the Month BFF Membership. Once you have reached a total of 12 boxes, you have become a BFF. As a BFF you receive a free add on during your birthday month and a free book lover tote. At the end of each year Book of the Month has selections for best book of the year. BFF members get to select one of the best book nominees for free to add to their box!

I have now been a member for 36 months, having been sent 31 boxes totaling 52 books. Clearly, I love it. Of the books I have selected, most of them have been good or great reads. Of course, there have been a few duds but a handful out of 52 isn’t too bad. Overall, I look forward to the selections being released each month and anxiously awaiting my box in the mail. This post is not sponsored by Book of the Month and consists entirely of my own opinions. Truly, I believe it is a fun way to find new reads each month for any book lover. The lovely dust covers make for an aesthetically pleasing bookshelf too!

Heres a referral link if you want to join me in becoming a member! It is worth it 🙂
